Why is International Womans Day important?

International Women's Day is a global event that aims to celebrate women's achievements, raise awareness of gender equality, and promote women's rights.

The goal of International Women's Day is to recognize the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women and to call for gender equality. It is an opportunity to reflect on progress made towards gender equality, and to recognize the work that still needs to be done to achieve gender parity and eliminate discrimination against women.

This day is important because it provides an opportunity to draw attention to the ongoing struggle for gender equality and the barriers that women face in achieving their full potential. It highlights the need for action to address issues such as gender-based violence, unequal access to education and healthcare, and the gender pay gap. The day is also an opportunity to celebrate the contributions that women have made to society and to recognize their strength, resilience, and courage.

You may wonder if this is still accurate today. Unfortunately it is. Even though there some locations in the world where inequality and oppression are more visable, it happens everyday everywhere. Here are some examples of areas where women still face discrimination:

  1. Employment: Women are often paid less than men for doing the same work and are underrepresented in leadership positions. They also face discrimination in hiring and promotion processes, and are more likely to work in low-paying jobs with little job security.

  2. Education: In some parts of the world, girls are still denied access to education, and those who do attend school may face discrimination and harassment.

  3. Health: Women face unique health challenges, and are more likely to experience poor health outcomes than men. They may also face barriers to accessing healthcare, such as lack of insurance or transportation.

  4. Politics: Women are underrepresented in political office around the world, and often face discrimination and harassment when they do run for office.

  5. Violence: Women are more likely to experience domestic violence, sexual assault, and other forms of violence than men. They may also face discrimination and bias when seeking justice or protection from the legal system.

These are just a few examples of the many ways in which women continue to face discrimination and inequality. It is important to work towards gender equality in all areas of life in order to ensure that women can fully participate in society in freedom and peace.
